SOURCE OF QUOTATION

In the graphic novel Alice in Sunderland, the comics author and artist Bryan Talbot tells the history of Sunderland from the Middle Ages to the current day. As he himself states: “In words and pictures, the alchemy of the comic medium shall conjure a vision of Sunderland in the crucible of your imagination.” Described by critics as a literary and visual masterpiece, the work, which is an eclectic mix of myth, history, and autobiography, is seen by many as the artist’s greatest achievement to date.
